So what is El Niño?

El Niño Southern Oscillation or ENSO is apart of many GCSE and A level specifications, however it is not always understood well enough to get you the students to score maximum points. This page should clear that all up.
Main things to know:

  1. Basically ENSO is when warm water from the western Pacific spreads east and causes floods in South America (Peru is often hit hard). The usual desert climate becomes wetter and floods occur. 
  2. In locations such as the Galápagos Islands the nutrient rich Humboldt current
